Jefferson’s story reaches beyond one era. The people who lived here, the waterways that connected them, and the community that continues today all belong in it.
The Caddo have deep ties to the broader region. Texas Parks and Wildlife describes Caddo communities, trade and farming around Caddo Lake, as well as the forced removal of the Caddo to present-day Oklahoma in 1859. The Caddo Nation is a living community today.
